you are the devil that sells a line of dark fantastic passion

it's a bit late but apparently i had to do a best of 2003. nya nya.

    albums
    1. ad green/friends of mine - i don't think this needs explaining. it was just brilliant and i heart him.
    2. whirlwind heat/do rabbits wonder? - moogers rock. moogers friends with terry richardson rock even more.
    3. ima robot/imarobot - alex ebert is a lyrical genious. him and dave whirlwind heat should be crowned as king of retarded white boy dancers.
    4. the coral/magic and medicine - i like them cos they make cool psychedelic viddy and sing about eskimos.
    5. british sea power/the decline of... - apologies to insect life. carrion. remeber me. classics. and hamilton is hot.
    6. the darkness/permission to land - need i say more about the hottest man in spandex, justin hawkins.
    7. saves the day/in reverie - i hated it at first and then i couldn't stop listening to it. yes, i know it's emo but it's good emo.
    8. junior senior/d-d-d-don't stop the beat - great tunes, great music viddys. yay for danish people.
    9. the thrills/ so much for the city - yeah i know it kinda makes you sleepy but all the singles are great. and i heart them cos they are irish and have lots of chest hair and calls themselves the trills.
    10. mando diao/bring 'em in - i have to admit that i listened to this album quite a lot. it's good. and bjorn is a sexy bastard. samuel is a man ho.

    gig-sys
    1. british sea power + delays - fabulous gig to end the year. i heart them. they are super fantasti-que. in the words of franz ferdinand.
    2. beck - my musical, whimsical muse. i love him and his voice and his funky dance moves.
    3. devo - are we not men we are devo. yes, i'm def. devo.
    4. the coral + kings of leon - both bands are terrific live. the 10 min jam session in during goodbye is the bestest thing you'll ever hear live.
    5. hot hot heat + the walkmen - i love hohohot. i should have mentioned them for favey album but oh well. no, not now.

    music viddys
    1. the hardest button to button - michel is a genious. beck is in it too. that's all i really need to say. and he's hilarious and speaks with the cuuuutest french accent ever.
    2. there, there - i saw it pron about 110 times total. it's that good.
    3. house of jealous lovers - shynola are brill. tho i prefer this to the jr sr viddy and the new floria sigismondi incubus viddy is somewhat of a rip off of this viddy.
    4. purple - terry richardson is great. the band is great and i want to blow up bunnies too.
    5. rhythm bandits - i love how colourful and groovy the viddy is.
    6. she came home for christmas - i pretty much like whatever jonas does. but i like this viddy the best.
    7. the darkness viddys - the fruitiest people earth. the fruitiest video on earth.
    8. bill maccai - i'm a big fan of the big glass. and lee is really funny. and the little dance is funny too.
    9. step into my office baby - cuteness.
    10. danger, high voltage - lighting boobs are cool.

10 Memorable Moments from RESFEST 2003 by Jonathan Wells

    1. Spike Jonze showing up to RESFEST LA sporting a well-worn Lost in Translation t-shirt.

    2. Audible gasp in the audience at RESFEST NY when "Japanese Tradition" filmmakers said "Relationships" was the last in the series. Actor/writer Kentaroh Kobayashi proceeded to let out his loud trademark "Har Har Har... Just kidding."

    3. Simon Le Bon (!) - dressed in white suit - negotiating the guest list at the opening night RESFEST NYC performance by LCD Soundsystem at Bowery Ballroom.

    4. Michel Gondry verbally sparring with the paparazzi outside the closing night party at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. "You have no idea who I even am." "Yes, we do! We loooove you, Michel!" "Name two of my videos." Silence.

    5. Mad rush of skateboarders at RESFEST London for the UK premiere of Helen Stickler's film Stoked. Some seemed more interested in lifting the Shepard Fairey posters for the film than getting into the screening itself.

    6. A person asking us if they could join the inaugural sold out Studio Tours in SF. "I'm sorry but they are sold out." "I think you have room." Us turning to find the bus company had sent a full-sized (read GIANT) tour coach, instead of the mini-buses we had expected and later had in LA and NYC.

    7. Mike Mills presenting a sold-out midnight retrospective of his work at the brand-new Virgin Cinemas at the Roppongi Hills complex for RESFEST Tokyo. Later he regaled us with tales from the set of his first feature film Thumbsucker, which is in post-production now.

    8. Uproarious applause after screenings of David Ellis' "Letter to the President," an audience favorite from the By Design program.

    9. Insane multimedia performance by Jack Dangers and Ben Stokes' Tino Corp for the closing night of RESFEST San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts.

    10. The anticipation in the air as over 900 people eagerly awaited the start of the Michel Gondry Retrospective at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Daft Punk boomed over the sound system. One of the most memorable nights in RESFEST history.

isn't michel the greatest? this is why we all love him. haha.

    coachella-ness 2004. yay-ness.
